Duke Street Parking Garage, Ontario Street on the Wall facing King St.
Kitchener, Ontario
The Mural incorporates various levels of the Girl Guide organization, including, Sparks, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The characters in the mural are engaged in two major activities in the mural, a cozy campfire and a canoe trip in the great outdoors. The Mural emerged from the slogan of the Girl Guides: "Start a friendship."

"The Riverwalk Mural" 2002 -

This mural was an attempt to make a warehouse type building look more like the retail shops that were inside. I went for a "Paris street" theme.

I had a lot of fun with trompe l'oeil details, especially my copies of famous posters from the original Moulin Rouge.

New Hamburg Firehall Mural

(20' X 80')
by Lance Russwurm
Exterior Acrylic Enamel

This was my first mural. I probably never would have tried one, but the township had a competition to do a design for this bare wall. I entered and won. I learned many of the tricks and techniques I use to this day while doing this project. Note how I incorporated the actual windows of the building into the scene. I drew all the objects dead-on so that perspective would not cause problems with viewing from any angle. Everything is life-size so passers-by can feel that they are a part of the picture. It has proven to be a popular photo backdrop with tourists for that reason.

I have been an artist/illustrator working out of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario for many years. I tend to specialize in historical and mechanical subject  matter, but I also enjoy doing portraits, murals, airbrush jobs or anything else that comes up. I work mostly in acrylics, oils, watercolours, graphite and ink. I can  take a photo if I have to, and can also do a bit of photo-retouching...but, mostly, I do things the traditional way.
